macOS Installed on iPhone After Jailbreak
United Gaming – The dream of running macOS on an iPhone is no longer just a fantasy. Thanks to the work of modder Duy Tran, the Apple desktop operating system now runs — at least partially — on an iPhone.
Duy Tran managed to boot an early, unfinished version of macOS on an iPhone. He launched apps like Terminal, Disk Utility, Activity Monitor, and Xcode using a custom project called MacWSBootingGuide.
This breakthrough hints at the possibility of doing the same on iPads, which share a similar hardware and software ecosystem. However, the build still has major limitations. Only basic apps run properly, and frequent errors occur.
This method works only on devices with the A11 Bionic chip or older. These models can use the Checkm8 hardware exploit, which bypasses Apple’s Secure Boot Chain. Once bypassed, the iPhone can be jailbroken, allowing macOS installation.
On Twitter, some users asked if this could be done on iPads. Duy Tran said a few people are already testing it on the M2 iPad, which supports Metal for better graphics performance.
If experiments like this gain popularity, Apple might face pressure to release macOS for iPad or create touchscreen MacBooks. The project also raises the question: is iPadOS the real bottleneck for Apple’s most advanced tablets?
While far from stable, this project proves Apple’s mobile hardware can handle its desktop operating system. That alone opens up intriguing possibilities for the future of Apple devices.
