Qatar Blocks Roblox — Here’s Why the Popular Game Was Banned
United Gaming – Every country has its own rules on what people can watch, read, or play. Video games are no exception.
After Turkey banned Roblox, and Indonesia considered following suit, Qatar has now taken a similar step. The Gulf nation recently blocked access to the massively popular online game — but why?
According to Qatar Tribune, players in Qatar can no longer log in to Roblox or visit its official website. The game still appears on Google Play, the Microsoft Store, and Apple’s App Store. Yet even if you download it, you can’t play.
Authorities confirmed they made the move deliberately.
Officials say the ban aims to protect children and teenagers. They point to increasing concerns about online predators targeting young players.
Tech and AI researcher Bahaa Al Ahmad told Al Sharq that Roblox has changed.
“It’s no longer just a game. It’s a digital open space where children interact like they do in real life,” he explained.
Al Jasra News reported another reason: Roblox allegedly contains elements that go against Qatar’s religious, cultural, and traditional values. In a conservative society like Qatar, such conflicts can quickly trigger censorship.
This ban is about more than Roblox. It reflects a growing global debate on how to keep virtual worlds safe for children. Should governments step in to protect minors, or should it be up to parents and platform owners?
For now, Qatar’s stance is clear: when online spaces cross cultural lines or pose safety risks, they’re willing to shut the door completely — even on a platform as popular as Roblox.
